Mablethorpe, October 2021: The Wet Half Of The Holiday

At the start of October me and Mr Crafty Blueberry went on our much anticipated holiday to Haven Golden Sands in Mablethorpe. We both love how simple our holidays there are; just a cosy caravan, lots of time by the sea and our stash of good food and drink.

I made my first batch of gnomes to hide for people to find. Here they are ready to go, in a selfie that one of them took when I wasn't looking:

We also brought our own gnome, Ford, with us for his first adventure. He enjoyed his trip of the Humber Bridge very much:

We stopped off in Louth for lunch and released our first gnome:

As soon as we arrived we unpacked the car then walked to the beach, just in time for a storm. It's a beautiful beach, always open and spacious but it looks different in every season and weather condition:

It occurred to us both that being out in lightening when you're the tallest points on such a flat place is a bad idea so after admiring the magic of it we headed back to the caravan. We got soaked to the skin but fortunately the caravan had central heating so we had somewhere to dry our clothes. Unfortunately the oven didn't work very well and I had a hard time of it cooking dinner when we were both damp and hungry. But opening prosecco and getting under a blanket afterwards helped a lot.

The next day we thought the weather would stay dry...we were wrong. We drove to The Wash Nature Reserve and saw this beautiful house in a former lighthouse. What an absolutely magical place to live; I was quite jealous.

That was at the start of the walk and we didn't get any further! Our unwisely chosen walking clothes (for a dry day - so self-deluded) were no match for the cold and the damp so we turned back. Feeling disappointed we found the lovely Pippa's Pantry in Sutton Bridge and warmed up with hot chocolate. I wish I'd taken photos of the cafe as it was so cosy and utterly charming, decked out in a vintage sunflower theme. I did at least remember to take a photo of the bridge of Sutton Bridge though:

Feeling refreshed we decided to spend the afternoon in Skegness. I love piers so will write a separate post on Skegness Pier but here's a view of it looking shiny in the rain:

We saw a sign for the classic wet weather seaside pursuit: Prize Bingo. Ford had a go with us too but none of us won, though it was great fun and, for the first time, I heard the Bingo caller using the old 'two little ducks' etc patter.

The rain cleared up and we strolled along the promenade:

And saw Las Vegas, which doesn't look at all like it does on TV and in the films:

After that we picked up treats and dinner from Marks and Spencer and headed back to the caravan to defrost.
