Planes Galore At The Two Manchester Airports

Last weekend we had an aviation themed couple of days. We were staying with friends in Manchester on Saturday night, so on the way there we visited Barton Aerodrome/Manchester City Airport. It was very busy with light aircraft and small helicopters; lots of people taking lessons and going on pleasure flights so there was plenty to see.

Despite the many, many planes taking off and landing I really struggled to take good photos of them!

In the evening we had an excellent meal and fancy looking cocktails at the Napoleon's Casino in Manchester city centre. I didn't make my fortune but I did have a really good night out.

The next day we went to the Runway Visiting Park at Manchester Airport, where I once again struggled to take decent photos of the planes, even though they were much bigger!

It was another good place to visit with lots to see as the airport was busy at the time. Something new since I was last there is a public address system with someone announcing each incoming/departing flight and often giving interesting facts about the airport they were going to or arriving from.

I always find it strangely moving seeing jet planes take off and I never tire of it. I don't know what it is about it; maybe it's because I'm seeing something so impossibly big take flight. There's something nice about being there with so many other people who are marvelling at the same thing. Young and old alike, we all stood there gazing at each take off and landing with wonder.
