Autumn Garden and Home

I've been tidying the garden, getting it ready for it's Winter rest. I'm going to grow some hardy crops for as long as possible into the cold months so am trying out this mini greenhouse for Winter cabbage and pak choi. After than it should be useful for starting some Spring crops early.

I've left the tomatoes out until the weather has started to turn chilly as I don't think they can ripen much more outdoors. They're now living in a big plastic box on the conservatory windowsill, though as they need heat rather than sunshine at this point I may move them somewhere that's consistently warmer than the conservatory.

I've been giving the house an Autumn clean, it's got a bit bedraggled over Summer when I've mostly been outside. Yesterday I took all the ornaments down in the living room, dusted and wiped then got other ornaments out from the cupboard under the stails and chose what I wanted for Autumn. Most of them are second hand, and I've collected pinecones, conkers and treated myself to a warmly scented chocolate orange candle.

I'd like to make some watercolour leaves to cut up and string across the mantlepiece but I don't know if I'll get time to do that. I'm consciously trying to move away from being that person who gives herself too much to do and creates unnecessary stress because I want to 'get things right'. Who decides what's right anyway? I've spent too much of my life trying to live up to perfect standards I've set myself and it's time to let go of that.

You know what filling your life with busy work does? It distracts you from moments like standing outside the back door for two minutes in the morning, drinking coffee and watching a sunrise like this. How many sunrises have I missed because I've been rushing around trying to be productive first thing in the morning? Too many. But that's changing.
