Weekend activities

Activity 1 was wondering what these shoots growing in a container in my yard were. I hadn't planted anything and couldn't think what was in there last year. I gently dug them up and found that they were from a bulb of garlic, which must have been a clove of garlic I planted last year but missed when I dug up it's brethren. I was totally chuffed because I was annoyed at myself for forgetting to plant any in November so it could get ready to grow over Winter, and now along comes this surprise garlic. I've separated it into cloves and replanted it.

Activity 2 was listing about 36 items on Amazon. I started off putting a couple of dvds on, then had a rootle round in the attic and found a mass of other stuff to go on. Four things have sold so far giving me a current total of £24 after postage, woo hoo!

Activity 3 was staring at this wall in my living room and wondering what to do with it. I don't want this room to be brown and cream any more but can't think of how to repaint it. I'd like something fresh and light and more lively than brown. I'd like to get rid of the rock formation as it takes up masses of space (it continues into the corner to the left and completely fills it) and just isn't my thing. But our house is rented so we're stuck with it. And whist I'm on the subject, how the hell has my mantelpiece got so cluttered? Where does it come from? It's a mystery to me. Also, no amount of repotting, trimming, feeding or loving attention seems to make any difference to the state of this scratty looking peace lilly in the boarded up fireplace. I've had it for years and now it just seems intent on withering up and dying.

Activity 4 was making a cafetiere cosy out of little squares and it just not looking quite right to me. You can't really tell from the photo but it's pretty wonky and I just don't think it's going to work, though I like how the little blocks of colour look. Hmmmm, this one's for pondering.

It was a relaxing and enjoyable weekend of pottering. What pottering have you been up to lately?

  2. Have you tried putting your peace lily in the bathroom? I have one that I've always kept in there and haven't had any problems with it. I have another that has been in the conservatory and the kitchen- it hasn't liked either room, so it's in the bathroom aswell now! What colour furnishings do you have in the living room?

    1. I've just read your comment and hauled the bedragled peace lily up to the bathroom. Maybe it will take well to the heat and moisture. Thanks for the tip!

The sofa is brown, the rug's red (but is old and needs to be replaced soon)and I have a sort of rocking/easy chair from Ikea with a cream and leafy green cover. Bit of a mixture! But apart from the rug everything's quite neutral coloured so could adapt well to a new colour scheme.

  3. That's a lot of listing you've done. I've never used Amazon to sell anything, is it any quicker than listing on Ebay?

    1. I found the listing process very quick and straight forward, much better than Ebay, which I rarely list on as it seems to take so long. The one issue with Amazon is that postage is set at one standard price, so if you're selling a very heavy book it could be a pain, though most are counted as large letter or small packet sized at the post office, and second class post meeds the standard delivery requirement on Amazon.

  4. I listed quite a few of my study books. Sold 5 very quickly, the rest are just sitting there as book shops are selling theirs cheaper! Still, I did make £50 odd pound on those 5 so that was good.

  5. I still have some of my books from university so I've listed them along with various craft books. I'm rather ashamed to say that my uni books are all brand new looking...I learnt to knit in my third year, became obsessed with it and it, um, ate into my reading time!
